Talking to God and talking about Him from our originality. How can we think and talk about God as people of African descent? How can we reflect, as Mexicans with African roots, from the Word of God and from our reality? Without a doubt, the pillars of our understanding of God are Africa and Mexico as places from which God has formed us and from which He has infused us with His Spirit.

In recent months, the anti-immigration policy initiated by the administration of US President Donald Trump against the most vulnerable members of society, migrants, has been in the news around the world. At the beginning of this new administration, our people thought there would be changes in favor of life and respect for the values of individuals in society. But that dream of hope has gradually faded away and turned into stories of fear and terror.

I have worn
a veil or a scarf for much of my life. In my congregation, the Comboni Sisters,
the veil is not obligatory, yet I freely embraced it—first in Italy, the
homeland of many of our elderly sisters, for whom the veil carries deep
meaning. There, it became a sign of continuity, respect, and belonging.

When
I was 16, I met Father Alfredo Pulido, who gave me my first book on vocation.
However, I was just finishing high school and didn't have many things clear in
my life. Then, three years later, during a spiritual retreat in October, I had
the good fortune to meet Father Alfonso Álvarez, who, with his joy and
missionary witness, managed to catch my attention and make me curious about the
mission. I have now been on the African continent for just over a year,
specifically in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the heart of Africa, and I
feel very happy.

THE CHURCH IN THE WORLD
According to information gathered by Fides Agency, in 2025, 17 missionaries were killed worldwide: priests, religious sisters, seminarians, and lay people. The breakdown by continent shows that the highest number of pastoral workers killed in 2025 was recorded in Africa, where 10 missionaries (6 priests, 2 seminarians, and 2 catechists) were killed. In the Americas, 4 missionaries (2 priests and 2 nuns) were killed, and in Asia, 2 (1 priest and 1 lay person). Finally, one priest was killed in Europe. In recent years, Africa and America have alternated in the top spot of this tragic ranking. Buddhist monks and environmentalists have urged the Sri Lankan government to adopt a nationwide program to prevent human-elephant conflict, after video footage of a wild elephant being shot and set on fire went viral on social media.
Police arrested three men on Dec. 18 in the north-central district of Anuradhapura on charges of cruelty to animals, according to media reports.
Wildlife officials said the elephant sustained more than a hundred bullet injuries before it was set alight. Veterinary surgeons' attempts to save its life failed, they added.

"In the center of the city of Manama stands the Sacred Heart Church, a symbol of faith, harmony, and generosity of the rulers of Bahrain for 85 years. Its history began in 1938, when His Highness Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa offered Capuchin Bishop Giovanni Battista Tirinanzi, a missionary who served as Vicar Apostolic of Arabia from July 2, 1937, to October 21, 1948, as well as titular bishop of Gaza (1937-1949), a plot of land for the construction of a Christian church. This donation laid the foundations for the first Catholic church in the Gulf. This is how Father Francis Joseph Padavupurackal, OFM Cap., parish priest and rector of the Church of Manama, belonging to the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, recounts it.

The next meeting of young people from the Taizé Community will take place from December 28, 2026, to January 1, 2027, in Łódź, Poland. The announcement was made on December 30, 2025, by Brother Matthew, prior of Taizé, during evening prayer at the community's meeting in France from December 28, 2025, to January 1, 2026.
A note from the Taizé community recalls that the first meeting in Poland (Wrocław, 1989-1990) coincided with the fall of the Iron Curtain. This upcoming European meeting, the sixth on Polish soil, is an invitation to continue building peace within ourselves and in the world. As Brother Matthew suggests in his letter for 2026, “through others we may be surprised to discover something we would not have found on our own.”

Following the Jubilee of Hope, the global movement reinforces its commitment to ecological conversion, prophetic denunciation, and grassroots community building. After a historic Jubilee of Hope and the inspiring conference “Giving Hope,” the Laudato Si' Movement (LSM) is preparing to begin 2026 with a clear determination: to transform deepened hope into bold collective action in the service of caring for our common home and the poorest among us.
In its pastoral and strategic vision, the movement expresses that this new year invites its global community to continue building “a Church attentive to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor, rooted in prayer, shaped by encounter, and committed to ecological conversion.” This vision is part of the Encuentros process, a journey of discernment that encompasses the entire movement and continues to guide its experience of synodality.

Father João Mponda is a young Mozambican Comboni missionary. He has been in Ecuador for three years, sharing his life and faith with the indigenous Chachi people. Father João says: “Missionary work in these lands requires commitment and sacrifice, not only spiritual but also physical, because reaching the scattered communities requires travelling across rivers and mountains. Our missionary commitment in these communities aims to proclaim the Gospel and is not limited to the celebration of the Eucharist.”

Faces of Hope
For the first time, a group of Palestinian Bedouin women found themselves facing so many men who were not part of their family and did not share their language, faith, or land. Everything seemed to separate them... and yet something invisible and profound united them. In the humble tin and zinc hut —converted into a meeting room and the heart of the Bedouin village of Abu Nawar— they carefully prepared for the long-awaited moment.

Fr. Alex Geraldo Nunes: "The joy of serving God as a missionary priest"
On August 9, 2025, Comboni missionary Alex Geraldo
Nunes was ordained a priest by the laying on of hands by Bishop Airton José dos, Minas Gerais. The celebration took place in the parish of Nossa Senhora das Dores, in Capela Nova. The motto chosen for this celebration was: "I have given you an example: do as I have done" (Jn 13:15).
In his homily, Bishop Airton recalled that the priesthood is not
a privilege, but a call to serve with humility, especially the poorest and most forgotten.
The ordination of Father Alex Nunes was preceded by a
week of missionary and vocational animation organized by the Comboni Family (fathers, sisters, and lay people). Alex Nunes consecrated his priestly life to the Lord and
asked for the grace to live the mission with joy and generosity, being a priest after the heart of Christ, in the spirit of St. Daniel Comboni, who encourages us to “save Africa with Africa.” On September 14, the feast of the Holy Cross, Fr. Alex Geraldo Nunes was officially “sent” from his parish to the Comboni mission in Egypt/Sudan.

It is surprising to talk about Islam in Latin America, a reality that seems very distant from the Arab world in terms of culture and mentality, customs and habits. However, Muslims have been present on the continent for a long time; one need only recall the various migratory flows between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries from Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and the Middle East in general, not to mention the converts in the US who return to their homeland and become propagators.

The Comboni Missionaries' Itinerant Mission in the Chinese Context
Twenty-five years have passed since a small group of Comboni missionaries arrived in Macao to begin their work in the Chinese context. The Fen Xiang project was the center of their pastoral activities. The opening of a community in Macao and, later, in Taiwan, aimed to lay the foundations for the presence of Comboni missionaries in the Chinese context. However, their goal was to establish a “Comboni presence” in mainland China.
The new evangelization in America
We need an ecclesiology of communion and communication, because evangelization requires the collaboration of all. The ecclesiology of proclamation reminds us that evangelizing action is communicating the
Gospel, and this communication is carried out through words, through works of witness, and through the values and strengths that drive spiritual life. Good evangelization cannot do without these three
elements.
